Nineholds is a persistent roleplay server that runs on your own copy of Skyrim Special Edition. One shared world, characters that stay where you left them, and rules the server enforces rather than asks you to keep.
What you need
Nineholds runs on top of your own legally owned copy of Skyrim. We distribute no Bethesda file of any kind. The launcher installs Nineholds server files and configuration. Use our Nexus collection in Vortex for the required framework mods.
Skyrim SE 1.6.1170
Your own Steam installation, run once to create its settings. Keep runtime 1.6.1170 for this playtest.
The required Vortex collection
Use a dedicated Nineholds profile and collection revision 6. It supplies SKSE 2.2.6, Address Library, Engine Fixes and its preloader, Actor Limit Fix and Animation Queue Fix.
Skyrim Platform AE 2.9.0
The required collection selects the Anniversary Edition archive. The other 2.9.0 archive targets a different runtime.
The launcher
Installs Nineholds server files and configuration, then checks the complete setup before Play.
How it works
- The launcher finds your Skyrim and checks this computer against what the server runs: the game version, native plugin compatibility, deployed dependencies and load order.
- You sign in with Discord in the launcher. Your own browser opens on Discord's page, you approve it there, and nothing is typed into the launcher. That lasts thirty days.
- It fetches the server's file list and installs Nineholds client files and configuration. Every published file is verified by SHA-256 after download. A partial install stops rather than starting the game.
- It writes the load order the server runs, then reads it back to confirm it landed.
- You press Play. Skyrim starts through SKSE and attempts to join. Create your character on your first visit, or resume it on later visits.
The launcher records the server files it installs so they can be removed later. It never opens a settings file it did not write, and it never deletes a mod you installed yourself.
